Carrot Cake Smoothie

recipes May 18, 2017

I was hankering for a milk shake and wanted to try a different smoothie with veggies in it and I AM SO GLAD I MADE THIS!  It tasted like a special treat to me and is loaded with nutrients.  I may have used my finger to scrape out the edges of the mason jar.  After drinking this I wasn't doubled over with stomach pain like a milk shake does to me ...insert happy dance!

(makes 2 servings)
1 cup of carrots ( I used baby carrots.  We use a Vitamix and it can handle them whole, some blenders you may want to grate the carrots first).
1 small banana, frozen
1 1/2 cups unsweetened Almond Milk
2 Tbsp. cashew butter
2 dates
2 Tbsp hemp hearts
1 tsp. Vanilla
1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

Blend until creamy and ENJOY.  The second serving lasted several days in the fridge sealed.

This comes in around 260 calories per serving with 9 grams of protein.  Next time I may try it with just one date because it was plenty sweet.

I have truly changed my life, both mentally and physically

Alana's Story~

Before starting at Tall Trainer, I was broken. I struggled to walk my students to different classes; I would profusely sweat daily; I hated how I looked in pictures. I had no idea what REAL nutrition was.  Ya know how they say people gain the freshman 15?  I gained the freshman 50, then the sophomore 60, etc.  College was bad for me for many reasons.  Dining hall food; lots of adult beverages; late nights.  I started playing women's professional football in college, and was actually told I was the smallest lineman and should put on weight.  And for the 10 years I played, although I was active, I wasn't in shape, fit, or following proper nutrition.  I first started to really try to lose weight in 2013, when I joined Weight Watchers and lost about 50 lbs. But I didn't really know nutrition. I knew how to cheat their system and still lose weight.  I didn't know how to nourish my body correctly.  It stopped working for me,...

They Stole It!

They stole it!

(Lori Photo Bombing my sign - She didn't steal it...I don't think?)

I guess I cannot blame them. I knew better but decided to take a chance.  You guys know how when something is easy to do you are more likely to do it?  And when something is harder to do it you are less likely to do it?  Well I made it too easy for them.  Here’s what happened and what we can learn about human nature to help us lose weight. (After all there is a weight loss and health lesson in everything!)

We are holding a weight loss contest that starts next week.  (details here if you want to join, over $3,900 in prizes)  I had an extra yard sign in my car that I hadn’t put out yet.  So last night when I was unloading our Lowes supplies for some house projects I decided to put it out.  I wanted it to be visible well so I put it about a foot away from the sidewalk.  (you already know what happened...

EASY one tray oven baked Chicken Fajitas

recipes Apr 14, 2017

Ya' all this is SO easy and a super FAST meal to make!  Perfect for a family who has many differently calorie needs at the same table.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Spray or brush large 13x18 sheet pan with oil (or, use 2 smaller pans).

1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1-2red bell pepper
1-2yellow bell pepper
1-2 large onion
1-2 tablespoons taco seasoning
2 tablespoons olive oil

(You could also add mushrooms, jalapeno's or any other spicy pepper you would like).

Slice the peppers and onions and place on a cookie sheet.  You could slice the chicken raw or place it on whole and slice it when it is cooked.  I prefer to cut cooked chicken, cutting raw chicken gives me the hebbie jebbies :)

Sprinkle with the taco seasoning and olive oil.  Put in preheated oven for 30 minutes.  Half way through give the veggies a little stir.

Timer dings and ta-da dinner is ready.

I like to put this mixture on top of a bed of lettuce.  Then I add...

How to get motivated…

This just happened last month and I cannot stop bragging about her.  This is a huge deal!  It takes consistent effort and motivation to stick with it long enough for this kind of result!

How does something like this happen?

How to get motivated…

I gave a seminar last month and I sometimes ask people what they want to get out of this talk.  One of the comments was: How to get motivated? There are many things in our life that we would like to improve on.  Most of these improvements require change and effort, and because of this they sit sometimes for years not done.

So the question is how do we actually get started?

I am going to give you a couple ideas and finish with how I see people staying motivated long enough to reach their goals.

I would love to tell you people start because they want to be skinny, healthy, strong, and fabulous. They do want that but the real starting motivation is to no longer...

I was at my heaviest EVER!

transformation stories Mar 22, 2017

I have been overweight just about my whole life. I have tried what seems to be every diet with the hopes of quick weight loss; we all know that doesn’t happen.  I lost weight, gained more back, lost again to only gain even more back.  I lost 30 lbs after my first son was born by following weight watchers. It didn’t take long and I started to gain some of the weight back. After I had my second son, I never lost all of the baby weight and just gained more.  15 years later and I was at my heaviest ever.

7 months ago I finally got to a point where I knew I needed to make a change. Both of my parents passed away at young ages and I knew if I didn’t get my weight in check I could be facing serious health issues.  I have never been one to do much exercise so starting an exercise program was scary. I didn’t know much about Tall Trainer other than some friends “Liking” the face book page. I did read the testimonials on line and thought...

Roasted Carrots

recipes Mar 17, 2017

There are times when I find cutting and prepping vegetables very calming.  I was having one of those days.... I popped on an audio book and went to town peeling and prepping the big bag of carrots I had that needed to get used.  For those who do meal prep (which I highly recommend) get audible and listen while you work! :)

This requires a mandolin slicer, but you can buy pre-sliced carrots and then this recipe would be ready to bake super quick!

Roasted Carrots ..Or Carrot Chips
2 lbs or carrots
3 tbsp. Coconut oil melted
1 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Place parchment paper or a silpat on 2 baking sheets.

Peel and Slice carrots (I love the heirloom carrots with the purple, yellow and orange).  If you are roasting your carrots you can slice them a little thicker (my mandolin has 3 thicknesses and I did middle).  If you are going for the chips do it on the thinnest setting.

Melt the coconut oil. ...

Picture Imperfect!

This Is My Knee…….

Recently a runner I follow inspired me.  She showed a comparison of 2 pictures taken during a race.  One captured some skin moving and shifting while the other didn’t.  I thought, GOSH I have about a million of those…and I wanted to share to maybe free and inspire someone else!  For those who have looked at your knees during mountain climbers and thought, “whoa, what is going on there”? Mine do that too!

THIS IS MY KNEE ABOVE!  During this particular race there were at least 3-4 other pictures taken that my knee does not look like it is flapping in the wind.   But I get stuck focusing on THIS ONE PICTURE.  This one millisecond captured that no eye can see in real time.  This picture of my knee has made my stomach flip upside down and get paralyzed on thinking about what my body looks like.  It made me feel unsteady and insecure.  I literally have countless...

Are you living in a RAT PARK?

I have mentioned to many of you the book THE FOUR DAY WINby Martha Beck.  In this book there have been many tools that were/are EXTREMLY helpful in gaining understanding and control of my food behaviors.  One of which she explains as creating your own RAT PARK?!?!

There was a study conducted..on you guessed it…RATS!  Apparently they have a nervous system similar to ours.  I really don’t like to have anything similar to a rat but oh well. They also found that rats do not like cages, they like to be free and have room to roam about.  Ok so I guess I can relate to a rat, especially in WINTER when at times I feel trapped inside.

In this study they took two groups of caged rats.  One group of rats was placed in a standard old boring cage.  The other group was placed in a RAT PARK.  This rat park cage was built like an all inclusive resort with excursions for...

I kept telling myself over and over

transformation stories Feb 21, 2017

Meet Naomi!

Why did you start?
My clothes were getting tighter---still eating though.  Feelings of frustration – telling myself over and over – “You need to do something different – eat less – exercise – something!”  But I was still eating and clothes getting tighter.

I had an invitation to “Bring a Friend Day” at Talltrainer from my daughter-in-law.  After many “hems and haws” away I went.  August 2015 was a starting point and now a over a year has passed.
What have some of your results been?
Eating habits have changed because, first Andrew and then Jeremy shared the what’s, how’s and whys of eating – “Eating 101”.  Vegetables, fruits, proteins and water, water, and more water, became my focus.  Breads, sweets and processed foods have become foods not eaten frequently anymore.  Smaller portions and again more water have helped.  Eating fewer...
