I dropped the F bomb in front of my Kid😳

mindset Jan 10, 2019
I said the “F” word in front of my kid!!!!

Do you ever have one of those seasons of life where you feel like you are walking around as the worlds punching bag.  I have had a few of those!

Most recent was our season of “flooding”

It all started the day after thanksgiving.  I went to our garage refrigerator to get something out of the freezer.  When I opened the door raw “chicken juice” seeped out and went all over the floor.  The refrigerator had died.  I was exhausted from the holiday but had to deal with that situation right then.  I was able to save some food and was a meal prepping fool trying to not lose hundreds of dollars in meat.  (I buy in bulk because I HATE to shop).  Ugh, this annoyed me.

The next weekend I woke up at 3am on a Sunday and decided I would go organize the Christmas presents in the basement.  As I walked down there I saw them all sitting in a pool of water.  Denial hit strong so I walked over the finished sections of our basement and the carpet and lament flooring was completely saturated and it was absorbing into the dry wall!   This ended up being pretty extensive damage and has caused hours and hours of work when I thought we were already too busy in the midst of the holidays.  Thankfully, anything that really mattered was spared and only flooring and walls were damaged.  Also, super thankful to have a friend that owns a 75-foot snake to remedy the flooding. But, come on, can’t a pregnant girl get a Sunday to relax.

We were able to get a little insurance money to cover the thousands in damage but literally the second I opened the mail with the check Jeremy texted me saying he had to take the truck to the shop and the total for that fix was $4 less than what that insurance check was.   Maybe we will get a new mop #firstworldproblems.

The following week Jeremy was working late at the studio and Anna and I had a super busy day get ready for Christmas.  I was pooped and so looking forward to getting off my feet.  Anna was tired and on the cranky side and I was FAILING at being a patient mom.  As we were getting ready for bed I walked into the kitchen and you guessed it.  It was FLOODED.  The dishwasher went nuts and half the kitchen was covered in water. (Which is wood floor and now warped). Anna was right beside me when I noticed the flooding and yep, the “F” word flew out of my mouth.  Not fudge or fart but the F - - - word, the mother of “F” words.   Not a shining moment for me.

BUT, that little golden curled hair girl looked up at me and said “Mom, what can I do to help?” She was ready to take on this challenge.   That moment snapped me out of my funk.  It snapped me out of thinking the world was out to get me. This little peanut had a totally different mindset.  Now she isn’t aware of all that the dishwasher flooding could mean but her mindset was right on!

Mindset is HUGE!  Like KEY to living your best life.  How we walk through the day and handle life’s curve balls is solely dependent on our mindset.  Do we walk around like victims of circumstance or do we stand tall like conquerors?  Because here’s the deal.  LIFE IS HARD and LIFE IS NOT FAIR.  I read something once that is so true.  We are either in a storm, walking out of a storm or about to enter one.  Now isn’t that a buzz kill.  But this is just plan true.  I honestly don’t think one person gets through this life on easy street.  I believe that MOST people go through harder trials than I have.  Some rise victorious and some just roll over and crumble.  Some smile and laugh through it all and some are drowning in despair. I personally go between doing both.

But as I age and hopefully get a little wiser I want to lean on the conqueror side more often.
Romans 8:37 is a great one to keep in the memory bank.  “But in ALL things, we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who Loved us”.    We are made and given the ability to conquer life. We were made to be strong warriors who can stand tall in all trials.  Yes, YOU TOO, not just others, YOU WERE MADE TO BE A CONQUEROR.  We were not made to be defeated or victims but CONQUERORS. Now this doesn’t mean we don’t cry or get mad and have a hissy fit from time to time but then we STAND UP TALL and Handle the day! Don’t let the day handle us.  This does not mean we alone handle life but sometimes we call on the army, our community to come together and help!

One of my favorite things shared on social media a couple years back was: The devil whispers “You can’t withhold the storm” The warrior replies “I am the storm”.

Let’s stand tall. Let’s be conquerors, warriors and look at life’s challenges big and small as something we can walk through. When we do this we actually go through them with strength.  Not running to a way to numb all that is happening to us!  Ice cream, shopping, checking out on social media or whatever your vice is (we all have a couple) does not make any situation better long term.  But, our mindset and believing we can rise above DOES make it better.   If you don’t believe so then just humor me and try it. When life punches you take a deep breath and Say “I AM A CONQUEROR”.   I bet you might like the outcome a little better instead of feeling like you can’t!

Watch this link from elevation church.  I literally watched this every morning for months a few years back and it changed me! Anna has it memorized.  << Click Here>>

P.S. funny flooding story. 2 days before Christmas I woke up from a dead sleep hearing what I thought was water splashing all over our bedroom floor.  I was like what the heck is flooding now, did our pipes burst, did the roof cave in? Then I smelled it.  Stella our dog was having diarrhea all over the floor in multiple spots.  I flew out of bed and said “I can handle this, I’ve got this” and started laughing. Jeremy turned on the light and looked at me like I was crazy, and said “you seem excited about this”.  Oh life!!  MINDSET!
