Life changing benefits
“I CAN do that!”
Ruthanne C.
Mother of Two
On an extremely hot summer day in August, my daughter wanted a snow cone. We jumped into the car and off we went to get the snow cone. With my son on my hip, I stepped up onto the first of two really high steps. It took every ounce of energy I had to get up on the step. My son was only six months old, so I knew it wasn’t his weight that was causing the problem.
Besides being extremely overweight, stress was a huge problem for me. There had to be a way to handle stress besides taking pills. That is when I decided that something had to change. A friend of mine had just started working out and was using a personal trainer. The first trainer I worked with was hard and she knew her stuff and I was getting great results. Wonderful things were starting to happen. Weight was starting to come off, my stress level was much lower and I was starting to regain some of my self confidence.
After working out for almost a year, I managed to talk Jeremy into training me. It was the best and hardest thing I’ve ever done. His workout was very different from any of the training sessions that I had before. For the longest time I would way “I can’t do that!” Eventually, I started saying “I can do that!” and I would have to fight through it but I could do it. Each training session was different. When the weather was nice or even hot, I could count on us being out in it. After each session, I was completely exhausted but in an empowering way. Jeremy pushes you to go beyond what you think you are capable of.
Training with a trainer is the best thing that I could have of done for myself. The biggest reward wasn’t that my body was in better shape, it was my stress level. Working out releases all of the anxiety and stress that I carry through the day. I’m a better Mom and wife when I can take care of myself too.

“I did not realize that exercising would bring me back to the strength, agility and energy that I had in my younger days.”
Jo Smith
Age 66
I have exercised on and off (mostly off) most of my adult life. Originally my main purpose was weight. It was not until later in my life that I realized that I was losing strength and agility and energy. I did not realize that exercising would bring me back to the strength, agility and energy that I had in my younger days.
I had a lot of back trouble in the past three years and I was not active at all. In May, 2005 when I had my annual physical I had gained 10 pounds in one year. I left the Doctor’s office and came straight over to Hendrick Health System and joined. I got a personal trainer to help me.
From that first day, my back starting getting better. I could not believe it! I didn’t mention it to anybody for about three weeks. Then I started realizing that the exercise and the stretching had given me relief from the pain I suffered all day and most of the nights. Just think about feeling like you used to when you were younger.
You do not need to be an exercise freak or run marathons; but you will become aware of your posture, your nutrition, your pace (you have been moving much too slowly) and you will gain strength in your legs.
I will give one example: I travel a lot. I notice that women have no strength. That is from lack of weight training. When ladies get on a Car Rental Shuttle; they have to put down their suitcase and briefcase to climb on. That is weakness in the legs. I was embarrassed and I have worked that out to where I don’t even have to think about stepping up or down; plus I can put the largest piece of carryon they will allow in an overhead without any problem at all.
We all need to keep our independence. We must exercise. We must watch what we eat. And we must be aware of posture and pace. I feel I am a very disciplined person in life, but I will not push myself enough to really accomplish my goals without a personal trainer at least two and the better than that three days a week. It is worth its weight in gold.
